The Department of Economics at Dhaka International University (DIU) offers a comprehensive four-year Bachelor of Social Science (BSS) (Hons.) in Economics designed to equip students with the knowledge, analytical skills, and practical competencies required to understand and respond to the complexities of a rapidly changing global economy.

The Department follows an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) approach to ensure that students develop not only strong theoretical foundations but also critical thinking, quantitative, analytical, research, communication, and problem-solving skills. The curriculum is designed to prepare graduates for diverse career opportunities in government and public institutions, banks and financial organizations, corporate sectors, development organizations, research institutions, international organizations, academia, and entrepreneurship.

The BSS (Hons.) in Economics is structured over four years (eight semesters) and, comprising 142 credits. The program provides students with a balanced combination of theoretical knowledge, quantitative training, applied economics, and research experience. Through an engaging academic environment, students are encouraged to explore real-world economic issues and develop evidence-based perspectives on national and global challenges.

For students wishing to pursue advanced academic and research opportunities, the Department also offers a Master of Social Science (MSS) in Economics, comprising 41 credits over one year (two semesters) along with thesis and viva-voce. The MSS program provides an opportunity for students to deepen their expertise in economic analysis, research methodology, and specialized areas of economics.
